Helloooooo, everybody! Recording live from somewhere! Is this thing on?…

Anywhoo. Today is the first day of my “365 days of Creativity” challenge.

My mission, if I choose to accept it (which I have), is to draw something, create something, craft something then blog about it every dang doodle day for the next year. Now I know what you’re thinking, “that sounds fun” or ” that’s an interesting challenge” or “why did you commit to a whole frigging year?!” Don’t worry, I’m not crazy. I’ve been thinking the same thing too.20120715-190129.jpg

Seriously though, rediscovering my love of art has been a gift. And I don’t want to waste it this time around. I’ve found that everyone has creativity of some kind inside them. Most are afraid to step out and show people what they’ve got. We’re all waiting to unveil the “masterpiece”. Or, we’re embarrassed at out first few attempts so we stop and never develop the skill. The secret to being a good or even great artist/creative individual is to continually produce something. Put yourself to the task. Keep working at it. When that great idea or concept comes to you, you’ll be ready. You’ll find along the way that you have created something to be proud of.

There is an old African proverb, “If you can talk, you can sing. If you can walk, you can dance.” It basically means no excuses. [Read: Get off their butt and do SOMETHING!] Many artistic types need a push now and then to get to the next phase in their creative journey. Here’s the first push.

Now why don’t you join me? Pick up your pens, paints, instruments and power tools. Let’s see what happens. Hopefully you’ll see growth in your own pursuits just as I hope to during this challenge.
